Lawrence County's scenic beauty includes hiking trails, rivers for fishing and canoeing, historic covered bridges and a ruggedly beautiful state park. Two sects of Old Order Amish make the sight of horse-drawn buggies on major roads commonplace. Rich in culture, the county boasts its own ballet company, community theater, genealogical research center, historic museums, art galleries and matchless restaurants of various ethnic cultures. Events include antique car shows, arts festivals, horse and dog shows, quilt auctions, fairs and a hot air balloon rally.
Lawrence County is also home to two of Pennsylvania's six remaining Little Sisters of Lady Liberty. 200 of the 8-foot-4 inch copper statues were erected throughout the country in 1951 by the Boy Scouts of America in commemoration of their 40th anniversary theme, "Strengthen the Arm of Liberty." Only 100 remain today.
